Adobe InDesign/get rid of lines in InDesign

Question
QUESTION: I have a top and bottom black broad boarder line above and below a section of text. When I added a line of text in the middle of the section, the bottom line of text moved down but is under the bottom black boarder and can't be seen. I cannot get the black broad line to move or removed. I "inherited" this project already in progress so am not sure what other programs may have been cut and pasted into it.
thank you.

ANSWER: Beth,

Those lines are probably paragraph rules. Select the paragraph (click 4 times) and type cmd+Opt+J (mac) or ctrl+alt+J (PC). This will open the paragraph rules dialog box. Uncheck both rule above, and rule below from the top pull down menu.

Now the text will no longer have any lines.

QUESTION: Neither the rule above or rule below were checked. Yikes! Now what?
Thanks!

Answer
The line might be on masterpage item. go to the pages panel menu and choose override all master page items. If it was a masterpage item you could then select and delete it. Also check your layers panel and see if you have a locked layer that is preventing you from selecting it.
