Adobe InDesign/Cover design
Expert: Glen Demers - 1/30/2009
QuestionI have designed a cover using InDesign. The document size is 10.25 by
14.5625, including 1/8" bleeds and a 5/16" spine. I would like the image to
wrap around from front to back, yet when I export the InDesign Document as
a PDF the image does not connect through the spine. The PDF looks like two
separate pages with what would be a white spine. I have seen PDF's exported
from Indesign files for this specific effect (wrap-around) that do not have the
white space between two pages of a spread, but am not sure how to do this.
Thanks for your help
AnswerHi Reilly,
Whenever I do a book with a wrap around cover, I've found it's easier to make the cover up as a two page spread rather than try to make it as single pages. In your case you'd have a document that is 20.8125 by 14.5626. I would then bring some guides out to 10.25 and at 10.5625. This allows you to tightly control what is on the spine and, depending on what your binder specifies, you can keep ink out of the spine and hinge areas on the inside cover.
Hope this helps,
