Adobe InDesign/InDesign CS3 Mac & PC conversion issues
Expert: Candice Anderson - 1/3/2009
QuestionHi Candice, my name is Julian, and I am the Editor in Chief of my school newspaper. With the start of this school year we have relaunched and upgraded our school newspaper and are now using InDesign CS3 software to create our publication. For the first issue I did all the layout and design on my PC here at home, but at school we have a Mac lab which I would like to utilize for such purposes for the next issue. After finishing the first issue, I tried to open my PC - InDesign - file on one of the Macs at my school, but of course their was an error. I've tried to look all around to find solutions to the problem, or even converters. I'm not exactly sure that the InDesign software at school is the same version ( InDesign CS3 ) that I'm using at home. Is their a way that I can either save the file so it's compatible for both a MAC & PC? Is there a converter available that I could use - free of charge or at a low cost? And if there isn't a way that I can convert the file or save it as a compatible document, is there a way I can just save the basic layout (I'm not really concerned about font issues).
Thank you advanced for you help Candice,

AnswerHi Julian,
The most likely problem is that you are working in CS2 at home, or lower. If this is the case, what you'll need to do is:
at school
file
export (like you would a pdf)
save the file as an adobe interchange file (extension of .inx)
this should do it.
and of course don't forget to package everything and take it with you.
There is no mac to pc conversion. While you have to buy one or the other, they both are dual platform when it comes to saving.
