Adobe InDesign/indesign - slow printing
Expert: Glen Demers - 1/9/2009
QuestionHi Glen I am running CS2 on a mac in classic. I had no problems but recently
I am finding it extremely slow in RIPing jobs to my Xerox DC250, Riso and
Digital platemaker. I know its not the hubs causing problems but other
applications RIP ok. I wonder if i need to re-install indesign, if so do I need
to uninstall first? All the best
Paul
AnswerHi Paul,
First, InDesign CS2 will run on OSX, there is no need to run in classic mode.
Second, Indesign CS2 has many new design features that will slow down a rip considerably, including the ability to scale pictures by dragging the corner handles resulting in sizes that are xx.xxx% (3 or more decimal places) instead of percentages that are round to whole numbers, incremental sizing has the same trouble. But the big culprit is transparency - the soft drop shadows, glows, bevels, embosses and opacity changes that you can now apply to objects on the page. Clipping paths will also jam up a rip.
Try ripping a simple page (text and a few images, no special effects) to see if the problem is with the rip or just page complexity.
Hope this helps,
