Question
QUESTION: Hi,
I am actually working on an annual report in InDesign CS4. In the layout we want to put the previous/current page numbers on the odd page only and it does not work as it did in InDesign CS3 (the layout was first created in CS3). I had to export the file in CS3 so as to keep this presentation. Is there a simple way to do that ? If it worked in CS3, it surely can in CS4. Please help. Thank you.

Dorine

ANSWER: Hi Dorine,

Yes it can be done and it is done the same way as CS3. Here is a link that explains how in much greater detail.

QUESTION: Thanks. The link you gave is the one from which I learn how to do this in CS3. Today I have tried the same in CS4 but it does not work at all. The same page number appears twice on the right page of the spread (4/4 for example instead of 3/4) BUT this same file shows 3/4 when I exported and opened it in CS3 as by magic. I really don't understand that. Please advise. Thank you. Dorine

Answer
That is strange. Here is another tutorial to try.

Another method which may or may not have been explained by these tutorials is to make a text frame really really wide (so that the midpoint is still on the lefthand page, but the rest is on the right hand side). Inside that frame put the current page number, but make it right aligned. That way you can have the left page number be on the right hand side.
