Adobe InDesign/Inserting file

Question
QUESTION: I have two questions:
1) When creating a new file, and placing the text box in the two Master A pages and linking them from page to page, how do I get a large amount of pages into the file that are so linked (book, say about 400 pages), nothing I have tried has worked.
2) When inserting a text file into the open pages (above), sometimes a word, paragraph, or an entire page or more comes in red. I know there is a way to highlight the red and click on something to return the text to black, but I can't find it.
Thanks for all your great help in the past.

ANSWER: Hi Del,

Hold down the shift key when you go to place your text and InDesign will autoflow the text by adding pages and text frames until the end of the text.

With your text tool, select the red text and go to the swatches palette. The fill icon should have a red T in it. Select the black color swatch.

Hope this helps,

QUESTION: Thank you, however, the answer of removing the red background from behind the red text did not work. First of all, the "T" is black in the swatches, and hitting the black as you indicated only bolds the text in black, but does not remove the red background behind the text. Secondly, when I import through "Place" it does not come into my text box (blue outline box), but fills the complete frame (red or pink outline box). I am working on a 6x9 format, with a half-inch border text box.

Again, thank you for your help.

Answer
Hi Del,

Sorry, I misunderstood. With your selection tool go to the swatches palette, instead of a "T" in the box it should be red. Click on the red box to bring it to the front and then click on the [None] swatch (White box with red diagonal line through it) to clear out the background color.

Before placing your text, add your text frame to your master page so it will be there on every page when InDesign autoflows it or you can adjust your margins to .5 inches all the way around, these form the red outline box. Make sure to set the margins in the dialog box when you create a new document or adjust them on the master page in an existing document. If you only adjust margins on the page your working on all subsequent pages will revert to the default margins.

Hope this helps,
