Adobe InDesign/Missing Fonts and empty text boxes

Question
Hello, I run a magazine production department, we use ID CS3 to build the books. I recently ran updates on one of our macs (G5). Ever since, whenever one of the files is opened on that machine, ID says it is missing Arial TT fonts. We can replace with the arial that is loaded on the machine (same arial we use on all the other machines, same arial that has been on the problem machine that worked fine before updates were installed), but after we replace the font text boxes will randomly be empty, and they're not just too big for the box, the boxes are completely empty. Any ideas what might have caused this? I know its something to do with that update, but I don't remember what all was updated.

Answer
Hi Steven,

It sounds like a font problem. Take all copies of Arial from the font folders on your mac. If you use font management software, delete Arial from it's library/database. Look in User/Library/Fonts, System/Library/Fonts and Library/Fonts. Then do a search of your hard drive for Arial to see if copies aren't lurking elsewhere, e.g. Suitcase Fonts folder.
Launch InDesign or any other app that accesses fonts and make sure Arial doesn't appear in the font list.
Once you are sure Arial is out of the system, you can bring in a known good copy.

Hopefully this will solve the problem,
