Adobe InDesign/Placing text does not stay within text box

Question
This is what I wrote as a problem: “When I import (Place) a file into InDesign, the imported text file expands the blue box text margins I have set (A-Master settings) to the pink printable box lines.”

This is what you answered: “Once you have a story ready to place and your cursor changes to the "loaded" cursor, if you click in an existing text frame, the story will fill the frame.”
Since I have used InDesign before, I am quite familiar with how to set up the text margins in the A-Master pages, link (thread) them together, and therefore, they are imbedded for all pages inserted thereafter in the document.

The problem is, when I place a file into my existing document (as you indicated above), with the first two chapters importing just fine, any chapter after that does not stay within the BLUE text box, but automatically upon insertion expands to fill the PINK printable box. My question is how do I keep that from happening?

If it matters, I am using a MAC OS 10.5.6 and InDesign Cs4. Also, I use Palatino font throughout my files with NO exceptions in changes of font; however, when I click on PLACE, a get a dialogue box telling me there are missing fonts and they will be replaced by NEW YORK. I have gone through the steps to make Palatino the default font. I have also used this InDesign program to print 818 page book all with Palatino. I don’t know if this helps, but this is the problem I am having and cannot find, with all the tutatorials, how to correct the problem.

Answer
Hi Del,

The pink box are the page margins, they are just guides. The blue lines are an actual text frame. If text is placed on a page with a text frame on it it will fill the frame. If text goes to a page that does not have a text frame on it then InDesign creates a blue frame to hold the text and makes the new text frame fit to the margins.
You can set margins on your master pages as well as have a text frame on your master page.

InDesign is telling you that you don't have the fonts that the original text file used and that it will sustitute NEW YORK for it. Once the story is placed go to Type>Find Font... and click on New York in Fonts in Document. Then replace with Font Family: Palatino. Click on change all.

Hope this helps,
