Question
I have a border in place and want it to bleed to the edge of the page. I've attempted all the bleed things and it just seems to shift my document down and to the right on the "print preview" screen of what it's printing

Answer

Indesign Bleed
Hi Kelsey,

To create bleed you need to bring a portion of the border off the edge of your document. This does not work very well if you are using a stroke as your border. You will need to create a solid fill in the same color as the border and allow it to overlap the border and extend beyond the document trim edge.

Most print companies require at least an 1/8th inch bleed.

When printing with bleed, you need to choose a sheet size in set up that can fit your document size Plus the bleed amount. For example an 8.5 x 11 finished document size, plus .125 on all sides bleed, needs to have a sheet size of a minimum 8.75 x 11.25. Most print a larger sheet of 9.5 x 12 to also include trim marks to facilitate the trimming process.

I have included some examples for you to illustrate how this works.
