Adobe InDesign/indesign cs3 type box query

Question
I am a novice with Indesign and AdobePhotoshop so excuse daft terminology.
I am creating a diary which has a master page with a grid of lines.  This has
been set up for months, has been printed fine before, and all was ok until I
returned to work on it this week, and suddenly the type boxes I create refuse
to sit directly on the horizontal lines of the diary grid.  They will go a few
points higher, or below the line, but if you try and nudge the box up and
down,it stutters and wobbles and you can't place it accurately.  Have I hit
some keyboard shortcut I don't know about? It was working fine before.  The
only stopgap measure I can do is to copy an existing type box from a page I
already did before this problem started, change the type and place it in
position and it will sit where I want. Can you help? Textwrap is off, by the
way, I do know that much!  Naomi

Answer

Align to Baseline Grid
Hi Naomi, thanks for the question.

I have a feeling that you have accidently turned on Snap to Document Grid or Align to Baseline Grid.

The first one is found under View > Grids and Guides > Snap to Document Grid and the second is found in the Paragraph panel near the bottom-right corner. I've attached an image to help you locate it.

If this doesn't solve the problem, let me know. There are a few other options we can try.

Thanks, good luck!

Experience

After starting my design career using QuarkXPress and PageMaker for many years, the release of InDesign instantly caught my eye. Being one of the reasons for Adobe buying Aldus, I knew this would change the publishing world very quickly. I started using InDesign's first release and haven't looked back. I have dedicated my work and much of my spare time using InDesign to its fullest—and it's paid off. My workflow is quicker, my computer runs smoother, and my files print cleaner and without problem.
