Adobe InDesign/page edges

Question
I am new to InDesign. I have a double-page spread with a coloured bar that
extends the width of the spread. The page edges show up in the middle of the
bar. How can I get rid of this line?

Answer
Hi Stella, thanks for the question.

There's no way to make the preview of the page edge disappear from the centre of your spread, however, it will never print or show up in an exported PDF so you don't have to worry about that.

If the preview of the line bothers you, you can export your PDF as spreads and send it off to your client to proof it that way. Here's how to do it: Choose Export from the File menu. Name your file and choose where you want to save the PDF. Click Save and then the PDF dialog box will open. Under the General tab there is a sub-section called Pages. Check the box labeled Spreads and export your PDF.

Please note: This is for proofing only and you should not send the PDF files to your printer this way because they need to impose the pages themselves.

Hope this helps! If you have any further questions, let me know. Thanks.

Scott

Experience

After starting my design career using QuarkXPress and PageMaker for many years, the release of InDesign instantly caught my eye. Being one of the reasons for Adobe buying Aldus, I knew this would change the publishing world very quickly. I started using InDesign's first release and haven't looked back. I have dedicated my work and much of my spare time using InDesign to its fullest—and it's paid off. My workflow is quicker, my computer runs smoother, and my files print cleaner and without problem.
