Adobe InDesign/Multi-page/couple different size pages

Question
I've never made a multi-page document with different size pages. I am trying to
create a media kit that has the inside content at a different size than the cover. I
am also trying to make a shingle affect on the inside so that every page has a
visible tab. How do I go about doing this?

Answer
Hi Joshua, thanks for the question.

There are a couples ways to do this, none, however, are as simple as choosing different page sizes within the same document.

The first is to use the Book feature to link the attributes of multiple files. You can synchronize style sheets, colours, etc. and at least the odd-sized pages will be part of the same Book and easier to keep organized. Not an ideal situation, but workable.

Another option is DTP's Page Control plug-in, which gives you just that: total page control. There's more information available at their website http://www.dtptools.com/product.asp?id=pcid

Hope this helps get you started. If you have any follow-up questions, let me know. Thanks.

Experience

After starting my design career using QuarkXPress and PageMaker for many years, the release of InDesign instantly caught my eye. Being one of the reasons for Adobe buying Aldus, I knew this would change the publishing world very quickly. I started using InDesign's first release and haven't looked back. I have dedicated my work and much of my spare time using InDesign to its fullest—and it's paid off. My workflow is quicker, my computer runs smoother, and my files print cleaner and without problem.
