Adobe InDesign/Pasting Clip Art in InDesign

Question
My school district recently upgraded from Pagemaker to InDesign CS3.  Office staff was self-taught on Pagemaker, and we are struggling to figure out InDesign from the Adobe Help Viewer.  Can you tell me in simple terms how to paste clip art from Microsoft Clip Organizer?  (In Pagemaker, we just "copied" the clip art and "pasted" it into the document.)  Most clip art is JPG, PNG or WMF. Only WMF seems to paste.  Thanks for any help!

Answer
Hi Kate,

InDesign by default links to images rather than embedding them in the document, this leads to smaller InDesign files and faster RIP/Print times.

To bring images into an Indesign document use the File>Place.. command and navigate to the clipart image. On a Macintosh you can just drag and drop your images onto an InDesign page, I'm not sure if Windows supports this feature.

Once you have the images in your document you can go to the links palette and embed the images, although this will increase your file size.

Hope this helps,
