Question
I am trying to create an odd shaped box in indesign, how do I do it? thanks!

Answer
Hi Sarah,

You can use the Pen tool to create a closed path in the shape you are looking for. After you create the shape, choose Object -> Content, from the menu bar at the top of your screen and assign it as either Graphic (to import a picture to the new box), or Text (to create text that follows the box shape) or Unassigned if you are only looking for a colored shape or container to attach a Text Wrap.

If you are looking for a more simple shape that uses defined sides, use the Polygon box tool. You will find it under the arrow on both the Rectangle Frame Tool (assigned to contain a Graphic) and the Rectangle Tool (Unassigned box) in the Tools palette. If you select the Polygon Tool and double-click on the page or pasteboard it will open a control dialog that will allow you to alter the number of sides and add in star points / depth for creating burst like objects.

Hope that helps.

Thanks,
