Adobe InDesign/Icon missing from .indd documents.
Expert: James Fritz - 7/15/2009
QuestionI have CS3 and CS4 Middle Eastern versions coexisting on my PC. Everything runs smoothly. My main concern is with the InDesign files, the .indd documents have the icon of "unknown applications" however when I double click they do open automatically in CS4. I am also able to choose CS3 in the "Open with..." right-click-sub-menu, so no problems in opening the files.
The PC has multiple user accounts and there is only one account that faces this issue. The administrator account and the other accounts show the icons as they should. Please help in restoring this icons in my user account. Does it have anything to do with permissions? How can it be fixed? I have access to the admin account as well in case it is to be fixed from there.
Many thanks!
AnswerBeenish,
I do not have experience with the ME edition of ID, but I am assuming it is the same for the answer that I am giving you.
The reason that CS3 files open in CS4 when you double click them is because that is the way the OS is set up. If you want the CS3 files to open in CS3 you will have to be sure to have CS3 open when you double click on them or just do a file > open inside cs3 to get them open.
In regards to the icon being screwed up, that is strange. Make sure that the extension .indd is on the files. Also, try to re-associate the file-type .indd with IDCS4 in your OS preferences (I think it is in view or folder options in windows, but I am a mac guy).
I hope that helps you with your problem. There is a solution for this very problem for the mac,
http://www.rorohiko.com/wordpress/category/indesignproxy/ but it is mac only at this time. Maybe if you contact them, they will be able to give you an idea if and when they are going to release a PC version.
Good Luck!
