Question
Hi
I hope you can help me please. I am drawing frames that represent a block of land and on the top and left side I have the size in numbers in the middle of the outside frame.  What I wish to do is draw a line to the left and right and up and down with an arrow on either end.
I would appreciate your help
Many thanks
Jann

Answer

InDesign's Stroke Pane
Hi Jann, thanks for the question.

I think what you're asking is basically how to draw an arrow.

First, use the Line Tool (fourth down in the default Tool panel) to make a line. If you hold Shift while drawing a line, it will stay perfectly horizontal or vertical as you draw. You can also click on your document once with the Line Tool and it will open a dialog box letting you choose its length, etc.

Once you draw your line, you can arrow heads on it by opening your Stroke panel and choosing an arrow head style under the Start or End drop down menus. (See attached image.)

You can also colour the arrow and control its stroke width the same way you would for any other InDesign object.

Hope this helps, if you have any other questions, let me know.

Experience

After starting my design career using QuarkXPress and PageMaker for many years, the release of InDesign instantly caught my eye. Being one of the reasons for Adobe buying Aldus, I knew this would change the publishing world very quickly. I started using InDesign's first release and haven't looked back. I have dedicated my work and much of my spare time using InDesign to its fullest—and it's paid off. My workflow is quicker, my computer runs smoother, and my files print cleaner and without problem.
