Question
when compiling a table in one of the cells a red dot has appeared at the right hand corner.  When I create a pdf of the table, the table then looks wrong but I can't seem to get rid of the red dot

Answer

InDesign's Overset Tex
Hi Marion, thanks for the question.

The red dot is similar to the red "+" at the end of a text block; it means you have overset text. So, you have a couple options.

It may be just an extra paragraph return or tab, or some other invisible character, or it might actually be something that should be showing in the table. You can either adjust the size of the cell by clicking and dragging the cell's stroke, or you can also try clicking in the cell, selecting all the text (Cmd-A), and then reducing the type size, leading, etc.

Once you figure out what is missing, you can better find a solution.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.

Experience

After starting my design career using QuarkXPress and PageMaker for many years, the release of InDesign instantly caught my eye. Being one of the reasons for Adobe buying Aldus, I knew this would change the publishing world very quickly. I started using InDesign's first release and haven't looked back. I have dedicated my work and much of my spare time using InDesign to its fullest—and it's paid off. My workflow is quicker, my computer runs smoother, and my files print cleaner and without problem.
