Adobe InDesign/Text box

Question
Hi, I wonder if there is any way to make the text in the textbox start at the exactly at the border of the frame, and not as it do automatically, a little bit in (think the indent is proportionally to the size of the font). Always have to manually move the textboxes slightly to get an even right or left margin! Thanks

Answer

InDesign's Text Option
Hey Sofia, thanks for the question.

InDesign's default for your text box inset should be 0.0 inches. However, if yours is different, there's an easy way to change this preference for any new document.

Open InDesign. Do not open a document. If you want to change a preference for any new document going forward, you mustn't have any document open or it will only change the preference for that specific document.

Under the Object menu, choose Text Frame Options (Cmd-B). Under the General Tab, the second section is called Inset Spacing. Here is where you change your inset to 0 inches and any new document will automatically use these settings.

There's one other tip. You might also be seeing InDesign's Optical Alignment turned on. This is something that is proportional to the typeface point size. To control this (change the type size or turn it on or of), go to Window > Type & Tables > Story and it will open the Optical Alignment panel.

Hope this helps, anything else let me know. Thanks!

Experience

After starting my design career using QuarkXPress and PageMaker for many years, the release of InDesign instantly caught my eye. Being one of the reasons for Adobe buying Aldus, I knew this would change the publishing world very quickly. I started using InDesign's first release and haven't looked back. I have dedicated my work and much of my spare time using InDesign to its fullest—and it's paid off. My workflow is quicker, my computer runs smoother, and my files print cleaner and without problem.
