Adobe InDesign/InDesign - Selection Tool

Question
Hi Glen -- I've been using InDesign to design a brochure for the past week without a problem.  But today when I open InDesign, it is not allowing me to select the first Selection Tool (black arrow).  I can select any other tool but this one.  The only thing that has changed on my PC is that I increased the screen resolution and added a second monitor today. I'm sure it's pilot error but I haven't been able to figure it out.

Answer
Hi Tish,

Sounds like something in the program got corrupted. I would first try trashing the prefs files. Relaunch InDesign holding down the Control-Alt-Shift keys, click yes to the two dialogs and release the keys. This should start InDesign with a fresh set of preferences, or you can delete the files manually, they are located in Local Disk (C:) > Documents and Settings > [username] > Application Data > Adobe > InDesign > Version X.0. CS would be version 3, CS2-4 etc. In the version folder delete the files InDesign Defaults and InDesign Saved Data.

If that doesn't fix InDesign try reinstalling InDesign, but first see if going back to your old screen resolution or removing the second monitor fixes it.

Hope this helps,
