Adobe InDesign/Indesign editing

Question
Im stumped.  Im not a trained InDesign or Adobe user but I have a cool document created by a friend that I cannot contact.  I need to update just some text in the doc but although it opens in Adobe 9 pro I can highlight the words I wand to edit but they will not edit.  Im not sure how to open it in Indesign or if I can edit it there either.  I found the security settings and it says All allowed.
help!

Answer
If it is opening in Acrobat, it is (most likely) a PDF. It certainly isn't a native InDesign File. You are limited to what you can edit in Acrobat and I suggest doing any edits right in InDesign. If he did send you the file with an INDD extension, try opening it with InDesign and perform your edits there.

Good luck!

Experience

After starting my design career using QuarkXPress and PageMaker for many years, the release of InDesign instantly caught my eye. Being one of the reasons for Adobe buying Aldus, I knew this would change the publishing world very quickly. I started using InDesign's first release and haven't looked back. I have dedicated my work and much of my spare time using InDesign to its fullest—and it's paid off. My workflow is quicker, my computer runs smoother, and my files print cleaner and without problem.
