Question
QUESTION: Hi there,
WWhen copying and pasting text from one Indesign to another, the text settings change, I want them to stay the same. I set type for a Classified section so my tracking and leading changes from line to line depending on how much I want to fit etc. After I have set my text using my paragraph style sheets, I will then copy it and then paste it into another Indesign file and the stext looks different - the lineage changes somhow.....can you helo with this please? I'm thinking it must be because th two files have different preferences and one is more dominant than another or something?

Thanks for your help in advance,
Melissa

ANSWER: Melissa,

When you are copying from one ID document to another you are bringing along the formatting. If you want the new text to gain the formatting that you are placing it in, try copying the text then going to edit > paste without formatting.

QUESTION: Thanks for the quick response, but the only option available is "Paste" The Paste Without Formatting" is grayed out.

Answer
That is strange, it should be available if you are coping from ID to ID. You can always try the keyboard shortcut. Ctrl + Shift + V (cmd+shift+v on mac). and see if that works.

Otherwise after it is pasted, use the eyedropper to sample formatting in the area and paste it on your newly pasted text to make the formatting match.
