Question
Hello, I have a report sent to me in PDF form that uses foot notes (a little 1 or 2 that is raised after a word and is in italic). When I copy the information into Indesign it comes through as a regular 1 etc. where in indesign do I make the change? Many thanks!

Answer

Superscript
Hi,

You are looking for the Superscript numerals. To convert any character to a superscript character, highlight the character and press the following:
Mac: 'Command' + 'Shift' + '='
PC: 'Control' + Shift' + '='

You can also access this command from the Character palette. Highlight the numeral you want to convert to superscript, click on the Options drop-down menu in the top right corner of the character window, select "Superscript."

Conversely, you could set up a Character Style for superscript numerals and create a keyboard shortcut, like Command + 1. Then all you'd have to do is highlight the numerals you want to convert and press Command + 1.

Good luck!
