Hello, I am getting ready to purchase indesign. currently I am using quark xpress 5.0. for windows.  are there different types of indesign ? or just the latest version. I have looked on the internet and found price of $699.00. we don't have a way to get student discount so am guessing this is the best price. also it is going to be hard to learn this new indesign compared to quark.

no, it's not that hard to learn, there's just a little bit of a learning curve. Indesign does all the things that Quark does and a ton more. I would suggest buying the book Adobe Classroom in a book: Indesign if you'd like supplemental help. But honestly if you just sit down a play with it, you'll get the basic stuff quickly - especially if you've used photoshop or illustrator before.
