Question
I am having problems pasting text into an InDesign file from another InDesign file. When I highlight the text in the source file and paste it into the target file (or a new file) the text shows up in the wrong font, highlighted as missing. If I copy the whole box instead of a text selection, I get the same thing. If I copy it and paste it into itself, it works fine. I'm using Font Agent Pro and have the fonts activated and they show up fine in the source file. My preferences for the clipboard are set to copy all information, not just text.
The only way I've managed to get the correct fonts to show up is by saving a new assignment for InCopy and dragging the content file it saves into my target file, which is far more tedious than it should be. I know I could copy all of my text and then go back and replace the fonts with the correct ones, but I have too many files with too many fonts for that to be the best option.
Text that has a character style applied to it does seem to copy over correctly but the source has several different fonts and only a couple char styles, and not enough consistency for paragraph styles (even the GREP styles) so re-applying styles is not a very good option.
I need to be able to copy text and retain the formatting which seems like it should be a basic function so I must be missing something simple, right?
Please help.

Answer
Hi Kevin,

Double check the preferences, I have had some instances where it has changed back to the default of text only.

When you are pasting the copy, be sure to paste it into an already created text box otherwise the styles and formatting does not paste.

Thanks,
