Adobe InDesign/Exporting pages/inconsistent page numbering
Expert: James Fritz - 1/26/2010
QuestionQUESTION: Hi,
I am exporting a document from indesign where I have the page numbers and title set up in master pages. Now when I export the PDF the page numbers only appear on even numbered pages, all other pages do not have page numbers but show items in the master. Not sure what it is if its my setting when exporting or in my master page or one of my master pages?
ANSWER: Stefanie,
You need to be sure to have put the auto page numbers on both the left and right hand side of the master page.
Are the page numbers showing up on all of the pages in your layout?
If they are showing up in your layout they should be showing up in the PDF.

QUESTION: Hi,
Obviously, the issue at hand here is being confused.
Yes, i do have auto-numbering on all master pages and yes they are showing up in the document- in each page.
The issue, as per my initial question is, when i am exporting the indesign document to a PDF format, the numbers do not show in the pdf format, they only appear on the odd or even numbered pages.
No need for negativity, just would appreciate some urgent help!
Cheers,
AnswerStefanie,
That is a strange behavior that is happening. Is there a consistency happening with the page numbers missing? Is it something like every 3rd page, or is it completely random?
On the PDF export be sure to check the checkbox that says "non-printing objects". There is a chance that some of your page numbers could have been given the attribute "non-printing".
If this doesn't solve you problem can you attach your .indd file to the next reply so I can take a look at it?
thanks
