Adobe InDesign/Text Flow question
Expert: James Fritz - 1/8/2010
QuestionQUESTION: I'm a book designer and have imported text before, (a while ago).
Quark was my paging software and I'm trying to get used to InDesign3. I'm importing rtf file on a MAC.
I have made my master pps. with new document Text Frame
checked.
Went to my first doc page, (without selecting it), hit com/D and hovered until the flow icon came up, then Shift and click for the auto text flow-- It flows in the text BUT with its own text
boxes OVER my master text box!!
Have you ever heard of this?
Please get back to me ASAP if you can... thanks!
ANSWER: Judy,
Make sure that when you hold shift for autoflow that your cursor is on top of the master text frame. You should see your cursor change into the autoflow symbol (curving arrow) surrounded by dotted . The parenthesis mean that your text will flow into the master text frame.

QUESTION: I can't believe it James, I was only looking quickly when I just wrote that it worked... It didn't work, it did it again!
I'm sending a screen shot. You can see by the dotted master(s) in my document. The one lower is my actual text page and the flow is not using my master it's creating it's own on top of it--filling to the top of the page.
And yes, I checked, there is not two master frames on the Master Page.
Help!
ANSWER: If you want it to flow from the left to right hand page you need to go to the master page and pre-thread (link) the master page from left to the right. Now when you flow in the text into your document it should go into the master text frame.

QUESTION: That's true, I hadn't linked the Master left and right pps. And I looked in my two books for how to do it and I can't find it.
Can you help? On my master page spread:
AnswerUse the black arrow and on the lower right hand corner of the text frame there is a small white box (the outport). Click on this and you will get a loaded cursor. Next, with the loaded cursor click on the text frame on the next page. Now they are connected.
