Adobe InDesign/importing into inDesign

Question
1.  I am using InDesign CS and Corel WP 12 with Windows XP
2.  I have a 190 page book I am trying to import into InDesign--90 pages are in 2 Column Tables with headers.
3. I cannot "place" my document.
4.  We also have other Documents in Corel WP 12-- One in columns with pages of small numbers and small boxes, another is a Time line.

Q:  Is it possible to place Corel Wp Documents into InDesign?     Will upgrading my InDesign help?  To CS2? CS3….  If not, which version of InDesign best imports Word documents?
Q: We'd like to get out of WP. Since we have InDesign, thought we should put our documents into InDesign. Other recommendations?

Answer
Hi Trudy,

Indesign uses filters to import text from various word processing formats. Because there are so many different programs available, all with different file formats, it is almost impossible to have a filter for each one.

Indesign will import rich text format documents. These can be saved from pretty much any word processing software, including Corel Wordperfect.

You will need to save your Wordperfect documents in Rich Text Format, or .rtf.

Thanks,
