Adobe InDesign/Text alignment with mugshots

Question

Example
Hello,

First off, thanks for reading my question!

On to the question.

I am working with Adobe InDesign CS3, and am laying out a newspaper page. I have a two-column article with a mugshot to be inset in the body of the text.

I can get it on the page just fine, however, when I place the mugshot and text box that goes with the mugshot inside the two-column text box, I can't justify the article vertically. The box grays out and becomes unavailable.

The mugshot needs to be lined up on the right side of the first column.

How do I get multi-column text to justify vertically with objects inside?

Thanks,
Tara

PS — Attached is an example of how the text won't line up.

Answer
Hi Tara,

If I understand your question correctly, you need to open the paragraph palette, select the text and click the Align to baseline button at the bottom of the palette. You will need to make some adjustment to the size of the grid (in preferences) as well as minor adjustments to the text in terms of font size, leading etc.

Thanks,

Ken Black
