Adobe InDesign/PM 6 files to ID2 and or CS2

Question
I want to update PM6 (don't think it is v6.5) book files -- I have InDesign 2 and ID CS2. When I open one of the books in CS2, text gets reflowed. Do you think if I open the files first in ID2 that the text will not reflow? Then I could save the files as ID2 files and then step up/open the files in CS2? Do you think is smart way to work? or will I still experience the text reflow problem?

Just trying to be most efficient for my client. Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Ali,

InDesign employs a more sophisticated type engine than PageMaker and does not translate PageMaker's tracking values. You may be able to open in ID2 without reflow but then have it reflow when opening in CS2. I'm not sure when the improved type engine was implemented.

I would open in CS2 and then page through the document and check for reflow. I think you'll be happier with the look of your pages in InDesign, which looks at the entire paragraph when justifying text and not just adjacent lines. The lines may break differently but the overall look should be improved.

I hope this helps,
