Adobe InDesign/Drop Shadow and unwanted fading

Question
Hello Ken,
I have a question regarding Adobe InDesign's drop shadow effect. When I apply the drop shadow to an object, the application applies the shadow, however it affects the content of the object by fading it along with all the other text and objects on the spread - even in different frames. Any ideas?

Thanks for your time,
Bill Kae

Answer
Hi Bill,

When you are applying the drop shadow effect, be sure to use the Selection Tool (Black Arrow) and not the Direct Selection Tool (White Arrow).

I suspect what may be happening here is the shadow has been applied to the frame contents and not to the frame itself, thus causing the image to be effected. If this is a large image that extends beyond the crop of the frame, applying the shadow to the content can effect the other contents on the spread.

Try removing the shadow completely and then re-applying the shadow using the black arrow selection tool to select the frame.

Thanks,

Ken Black
