Adobe InDesign/Setting up a layout for a crossfolded document

Question
Hi there.

I have been asked to design an A3 document that will be crossfolded to A5. The entire inside of the A3 page is to be an A3 wall planner. How do I go about setting up this in InDesign to keep my printer happy when I send him over a print ready pdf?

Probably really simple but I want to get it right first time to save having to mess about! Any help would be great!

Regards,

Kathleen

Answer
Hi Kathleen,

Since this is a piece that folds in half and then half again, nothing special comes to mind as far as setting things up. The best advice I can give you here is for you to contact the printer that will be producing the job for you. They will be best to give advice as to how they would like your file to be set up.

As with any print job, be sure you are using high resolution graphics, have bleed extended wherever necessary and give yourself at least an 1/8" to a 1/4" safety margin for any important text or graphics from the folds and trim edges.

Visit our website help section here: http://www.bestprintingonline.com/printing-help.htm for in-depth information, printing guidelines, templates and application tips.

Lastly, and I cannot stress this enough, it is always best to contact the printer that will be producing your job for information. While the basic process is fairly standard worldwide, each printer has their own requirements and communicating with them is essential to a successful job.

Thanks,

Ken Black
