prasanna.

Answer

Folds
Hi Prasanna,

In order to center an image accurately on a tri-fold brochure you must know exactly where the folds will be and put in margins relative to the fold lines.

The most common fold for brochures is the roll or letter fold. This is where a panel folds into the outer two panels, the panel folding in can not be the same width as the outer two panels. It should be at least 1/16th of an inch shorter, preferably an 1/8th inch if you are running cover stock or text greater than 100lb. You may wish to check with whoever is going to be folding your brochures to see how much room they need for the short panel fold.

We have some brochure templates here that will show you how to create the panels for many common sizes of brochures; http://www.bestprintingonline.com/brochure-templates.htm

If your brochure is to be accordion or Z folded, then you would make each panel the same size.

Once you have established your panel sizes and put accurate guides for them in your document, use these to guide you margin set up for each panel and centering images and type on each panel will be a breeze.
