Glen, I can add one more bit of information for you that I just noticed. When I open this file, a cloned file icon pops up on the desktop that is locked. It does not happen with another InDesign file I have, and I can edit text in that one. I presume this is where the problem is.

Hi Debbie,

The locked icon is from when InDesign crashed or was forced to quit with that document open.
You should get a dialog box asking you if you want to restore the document. Click yes, no or Cancel and save your document to eliminate the locked icon. That should clear up the locked file problem.
