Adobe InDesign/font substitution from Word, remnant Char styling from Word

Hello,
We map Word Styles to InDesign styles for layout. This has always worked well. In Word 2007 I use the Manage Styles option to open a file that's a template with the appropriate styles in Word and everything looks great in Word, but when I flow it into InDesign, some fonts flip to random system fonts, e.g., N dashes become Arial, and some characters appear great in Word but then hold their original Word styling (i.e., before the Word style template process) in InDesign, e.g., superscripted minus signs are 12 point Times New Roman.
Does this have something to do with "embedding fonts" in WOrd for use in other applications? Is there a hidden character style option. I know you don't support Word but I should be able to fix this somehow. I have already created a preset and mapped all the character styles to none and it is still not working.
Thanks.
AnswerHi Lisa,
Unfortunately, I have very little experience with style mapping from Word to InDesign but I do have a suggestion:
When you go to import the Word file, check the box that says, "Show Import Options." Then, at the bottom of the next dialog box, check the "Customize Style Import" box and click "Style Mapping." This will show you where the conflicts exist (if there are any).

I hope this helps!
