Question
I am a new user to adobe indesign cs 4.  i am trying to set up a document that currently exists in word.  The document finished product is to be on 8 1/2 x 11 paper but folded, so each page size will be 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 finished in a booklet.  I am wondering how to set this up (as in how to select the proper page sizes or columns) and also is there anything special I need to know when printing the final document?  Thank you

Answer

New Indesign Doc
Hi Carol,

You should set up a new document as 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 with Facing Pages turned on. Choose File->Document Setup. Entering 2 into columns will give you 2 columns, coupled with 1/4 or 3/8 inch margins, this should give you a typical booklet setup. Enter the number of pages you require (pages can be added or removed later if necessary). The number of pages needs to be divisible by 4 for a booklet.

If you are printing to a desktop printer, you can choose File->Print Booklet for printing. Choose 2up saddle-stitch and Indesign will impose the pages into the proper order for your book.

The Indesign Help menu can be an invaluable resource when first starting out with Indesign.

Good Luck!

Thanks,
