Question
I'm trying to acquire the style definitions used in our college catalog as listed in the paragraph style dialog box. Is there a method by which I can print, export or get these definitions as a text document?  InDesign wont allow me to copy the definitions: the best we've been able to do is take screen shots of the dialog box. Any hope?

Answer
Hi,
Yes, you can export the information to a text file.
Click within the text box
Choose Export form the File menu
In the Export dialog, at the bottom there is a popup menu - "Format". Click on this and choose Adobe InDesign Tagged Text
Click Save
In the next dialogue, select Verbose
Click OK
This will create a text file that contains the style definitions and all the text.

If you want just the sty;e definitions and no text, make a copy of your document, delete all the text from the copy, then export the text as described above.

I have been working with page layout programs since the very first first of QuarkXPress back in .... 1987? I've worked with InDesign since it first came out and have helped many clients to create their publications using database publishing methods, and have written an application to streamline the process (CatBase).

As I used to be a journalist working for an international news agency (in a previous lifetime) I have been published in many publications around the world. As for technology writing: I was Editor-in-Chief of a Mscintosh magazine (MacGuide) and have written for various other publications on a freelance basis, such as The LA Weekly and InfoWorld.
