Question
QUESTION: Hi Candice. I've just been commissioned to design a 168 pg city guide book
to include maps, illustrations, interviews etc, its going to be a highly
designed piece with a kind of scrapbook feel to it. I was hoping I could get
some adivce on how to set up this document using indesign - by which I
mean automatic numbering and pagenation. Some pages will be full pg
spreads without page numbers, some will have numbers, how will this work
with automatic numbering. Also I am going to use 4 masters - how does
automatic numbering work with more than one master?

I want to design the book and then pagenate at the end, how would I go
about doing that?

Hope these questions make sense to you! Thank you for your help.
Many thanks,
Claire
ANSWER: Hi Claire,

there's too much you need to know for me to answer, I would suggest getting the book: Inesign, classroom in a book which teaches the basics of indesign. If you have questions afterwords, please let me know :)

good luck!

QUESTION: Thank you for your responce, I'm already fairly fluent in indesign, my main
question is about automatic numbering  and how this works when used with
different masters. If you could help me with that that would be wonderful!
many thanks

Answer
ah,

The easiest way, is to use the automatic page numbers in the actual pages, and not the master pages. when you use them in Master, you'll always see them - there's no way to lose them. When you do them per page, Indesign knows which page number to put in, even if you didn't put a page number for one of them.

that make sense?
