Question
I recently upgraded to CS3 but when I click on .indd files attached to emails, my computer doesn't recognize it as InDesign and instead asks to open it as a PDF.  Have you encountered this problem before?

Answer
Hi Anna, thanks for the question.

I personally haven't had this problem. When I installed CS3 onto my Mac, it instantly recognized it as an InDesign document and worked fine. I'm not sure what platform you're on, but either way, try this...

On a Mac, click once on a InDesign file to highlight it. Press Cmd-I to open up the Info dialog. Under the "Open with:" tab, choose InDesign CS3 (did it say Acrobat?) and then click on the Change All button. It will give you a warning, choose okay and then try it.

I think there's something similar on a PC under the Properties menu if you right-click on the InDesign file.

Another quick way to open any file on a Mac is to drag it to the application's icon in the dock from the Finder.

Hope this works... good luck!

Experience

After starting my design career using QuarkXPress and PageMaker for many years, the release of InDesign instantly caught my eye. Being one of the reasons for Adobe buying Aldus, I knew this would change the publishing world very quickly. I started using InDesign's first release and haven't looked back. I have dedicated my work and much of my spare time using InDesign to its fullest—and it's paid off. My workflow is quicker, my computer runs smoother, and my files print cleaner and without problem.
