Adobe InDesign/InDesign and Pagemaker

Question
Scott,
Pagemaker had a BOOK feature that re-paginated a document and layout for offset printing. Where is that in InDesign CS2?

Answer
Hi Lenny, thanks for the question.

Yes... I remember PageMaker's Book feature well. And when CS2 first shipped, they offered a PageMaker version that included Alap's InBooklet plug-in and this version could also open old PageMaker files (6.5 and 7). Pretty cool.

Since then, Quark has purchased Alap and they are (obviously) no longer making InDesign plug-ins. But if you do have the PageMaker version of InDesign CS2, the InBooklet feature would be under the File menu at the bottom (InBooklet SE...).

In case you don't have the PM Version or the plug-in, InDesign CS3 ships with an excellent booklet feature right from Adobe (File > Print Booklet), so when you're ready to upgrade, you won't have to worry about a plug-in.

Hope this helps Lenny, thanks and let me know if there's anything else.

Experience

After starting my design career using QuarkXPress and PageMaker for many years, the release of InDesign instantly caught my eye. Being one of the reasons for Adobe buying Aldus, I knew this would change the publishing world very quickly. I started using InDesign's first release and haven't looked back. I have dedicated my work and much of my spare time using InDesign to its fullest—and it's paid off. My workflow is quicker, my computer runs smoother, and my files print cleaner and without problem.
