Adobe InDesign/InDesign - Text Background Color

Question
I just installed CS2 Indesign into a new computer and can not figure out how to change what seems to be a preference that is automatically set.  When I create a text box and type any color text into it, there is a light pink background around the text that I type.  It is not in the entire text box, only around the actual text.  Help! Its driving me crazy!

Answer
Hi Lisa, thanks for the question.

I think what you might have is a font problem. It sounds like InDesign's default font isn't available on the new computer so it's using a substitute font instead.

This is what I would do; Open InDesign but don't open or create any documents. Find your Character palette (under the menu Window > Type & Tables > Character.) and change the default font to something that is installed on your computer. Then close InDesign and restart it. Now, every time you open InDesign and create a new document it will use the default font you chose.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Experience

After starting my design career using QuarkXPress and PageMaker for many years, the release of InDesign instantly caught my eye. Being one of the reasons for Adobe buying Aldus, I knew this would change the publishing world very quickly. I started using InDesign's first release and haven't looked back. I have dedicated my work and much of my spare time using InDesign to its fullest—and it's paid off. My workflow is quicker, my computer runs smoother, and my files print cleaner and without problem.
