I have a large file that is CMYK. I want to convert the file to Gray Scale. I don't
want to have to take all the links and go to photoshop. Is there a way in Indesign
to convert to gray scale.

nope.

but what you can do that'll make things a couple of seconds faster is go to your links box, press the object you want gray scaled and press the icon on the bottom that looks like a pencil. This will take you into photoshop with the object open. When you save, it will automatically save in Indesign as well.
