Adobe InDesign/Links to Images and Links Palette
Expert: Candice Anderson - 11/26/2007
QuestionQUESTION: Hi
I am making a book with images (Photoshop PDF Files) and my Link Palette tells me is has made 11 links when in fact I have 15 images - all Photoshop PDF. Is there a limit to the Links Palette and what is can show? or have a been doing something wrong. The issue is of course that I am making a huge book with many images in it and it's causing me to think that not all of the images will be linked to the places on the book on my screen. I do understand of course that I am not seeing the full image and that InDesign cleverly picks up the original image in all its fullness when it comes to printing etc. I am just concerned it will not pick all of them up. I can't get the Link Palette to 'Update' the images either.
ANSWER: hi,
Just bring the missing links back in.
There is no limit, but the only way you wouldn't have a link showing up in the palette, is if you embedded them. I don't suggest doing that. So, yes, just go get them again and relink.

QUESTION: Thanks for your reply but it does not answer my question yet! I have not 'embedded' the last 5 or so images but they are still not showing in the Links Palette. I did not go through the motions of 'embedding' anything. When I go to 'Window' - 'Links' and have the Palette on my work the Palette motifs at the bottom are not live. I cannot 'update' links either because the fascility is also not live. In other words I don't know how to 'relink'. Thanks so much for being there - I've been so frustrated!
Answerhuh? That's so weird!
What I meant was just go ahead and put those images back in. (not relink - sorry). So, literally go and place them back in and delete the weird ones.
I googled this and found that it actully could be a problem with your preferences, something might have been corrupted.
If you haven't pasted the images in, then you shouldn't be having this problem, they say.
They (or Bob) suggests:
Reset your preferences
Update your software
(this applies to non pirated software, if it's the good old pirate version, I have no idea)
I hope this helps, let me know if it doesn't.
