QuestionThanks for your response. I am trying to open a InDesign 2 document. The prompt I receive is "Can not open file. Please upgrade your plug ins to their latest version or upgrade to the lastest version of InDesign". How do I upgrade the plug ins?

A friend sent me an InDesign 2 file with the extension
.indd. I have InDesign 2 and can't open the file. When a
document is saved as an In Design document, what is it's
extension? What is the best way of sending/receiving a file
from one InDesign user to another?
Answer -
it should be opening. are you sure you both have indesign 2?
yep, .indd is the extension.
..was there an error message?
the best way to send, if you aren't doing anything more to change it is to send .pdf. If you send an indesign file, you will also need to send the files that went with it, as bmw is just a layout program.
Answerah,
you need to do a software update. just go to adobe software update, which is somewhere in your applications (or just search for it)
that...or you really don't have indesign CS2, and he needs to save as CS1. Try updating first and see what happens.
