Adobe InDesign/Switching from PageMaker to InDesign

Question
I have been working in PageMaker 7 on 400 page Specification
books. The reason I have not changed to InDesign is because I use the Paste Special feature when linking excel charts. I
copy the formatted excel charts into a document once and any changes made to the excel file are handled through the Links Manager. Another feature of Paste Special is the ability to double click on the chart in PageMaker and it
automatically opens the excel file so you can make changes,
save and close. Then go into the Links Manager and click update and it updates the chart in your document. Does InDesign have this capability?

Answer
yes,

but it's not worth switching over. You are doing too much that could screw up when you switch.

what I would do, get a one month trial of Indesign (adobe.com) and open one of your files in Indesign and see what that does. If it works, then buy it, if not, you didn't just waste 1400 dollers.
