Adobe InDesign/text wrap problem in InDesign

Question
I am trying to import images and text wrap them around a list of names in a newsletter I am working on. Strangely, I can get photos and images to wrap correctly on a few pages  but not on all of them- on one page, I am able to text wrap what is in the first column but not the other 4?  The text wrap features do not seem to be working at all no matter what I do! Any ideas of how to get them to behave?

Thanks so much!

Answer
Hi Jenn,

I don't remember this coming up before with anything I've worked on, but I can think of a few things that might help.

First of all, it could be that you have Text Wrap Only Effects Text Beneath turned on in the preferences menu under the Composition tab. I believe it's turned off by default, but with a lot of people who've used QuarkXPress, they're used to this preference being turned on. If it is on, anything that is below the text will not be effected by the wrap. If this is the case, uncheck the box in the preferences and hopefully that works.

If that isn't the case, it could be that you've put the wrap on the image rather than the box containing the image. In this case, I would make sure to select the box with the Selection tool (the black arrow) and then select text wrap.

The only other thing I can think might effect it is the text box options. For the ones not wrapping, select the text box (not the text) and choose Object > Text Frame Options and see if the Ignore Text Wrap option is selected. When this is on, it will (obviously) ignore the wrap of any object near it.

Hope this helps, let me know if there's anything else I can do. Thanks!

Experience

After starting my design career using QuarkXPress and PageMaker for many years, the release of InDesign instantly caught my eye. Being one of the reasons for Adobe buying Aldus, I knew this would change the publishing world very quickly. I started using InDesign's first release and haven't looked back. I have dedicated my work and much of my spare time using InDesign to its fullest—and it's paid off. My workflow is quicker, my computer runs smoother, and my files print cleaner and without problem.
