Adobe Photoshop/Odd artifacts in image

Question

Samples
Hello Glen, Thanks for being available. My question is this.  I use CS3 Photoshop and have a hard time determining the proper color space between my raw files and photoshops way of displaying the image. I recently took a bunch of portraits with a 1D Canon, Hi rez with color space set to Adobe RGB. When I open the image through Bridge I set the color space setting for the same. When I see the image in Photoshop, something does not seem right.  Blond hair has a slight green tinge even though the rest of image is color balanceed, and when I burn an area, the shadow detail becomes very pixilated with artifacts.  From a viewing distance its seems ok. but darkening an area causes weird things to happen. The background is a neutral gray, so it is perfect for sampling. I attached a few images to further explain the situation visually.  Zoom in to see the artifacts that show up. I remember using another camera and if I opened and image without a profile, this did not happen.  Is this normal? Am I prepping the image wrong? Thanks for your help!

Answer
Hi Jack,

I'm not that familiar with the color space used by Canon cameras or the raw filter in Photoshop but Adobe RGB is a fairly large gamut space which may be detrimental to the gamut density and result in the strange artifacts.
Make sure your monitor is calibrated, as all images are viewed through the monitor profile and try the sRGB profile.
As for the green tint in the blond hair this may be in the lighting, I don't think it is anything wrong with the color profiles as they have been used and tested for years.

Hope this helps,
