Question
QUESTION: Hi Glen,

I have a very random question regarding a way to save file in photoshop. I am an intern and my boss thinks that there use to be a way that you could save a file where different attributes can be saved at different qualities in the same image. Have you ever heard of such a thing, and can you please help?

Thanks,
Caitlin

ANSWER: Hi Caitlin,

When you save as a jpeg you have several quality options available from low to high quality - the higher quality gives you a bigger file size.
You can see many options under the 'Save For Web' menu.

Hope this helps,

QUESTION: Thank you, but actually my boss said that there use to be a feature where for
example you could save the face in a photograph at a higher quality than the
background. Do you know anything about this?

Answer
Hi Caitlin,

I am not aware of any way to achieve this, even in a multi-layered file all the layers are saved in the same format and resolution.
You can however, separate a face from the rest of the image and degrade the background using filters and effects.

Hope this helps,
