Adobe Photoshop/text not working
Expert: Glen Demers - 12/30/2008
QuestionQUESTION: my text isnt working. whether I use a selection box on the canvas or merely click on it, the flashing line starts where I click to the very bottom of the photoshop window. I can type, the line moves but no letters are present. I have tried changing colors, fonts, etc. nothing. the layer shows the name of what I typed but no words display. I cant find an answer. are the fonts corrupt? can I download a repair or other fonts online to test the ones in there, if so where to I save the new fonts? I cant seem to find a file. btw, I use windows xp w v7.0. Thanx for the help!
ANSWER: Hi Matthew,
Make sure you have the text tool selected and then drag a large text box over your canvas. After you type a few letters hit Ctrl A to select all and try reducing the font size. Make sure you have the letters in a contrasting color and you can only make changes to the type when it is selected.
Hope this helps,

QUESTION: Thank u, but I have tried that. theline goes the whole length of the page; changing the font size will change the width of the lettering(supposedly, the highlighted section changes width, but remain the whole length of the page, even if the box is only an inch tall. its like the fonts are all messed up.
AnswerHi Matthew,
The only thing I can suggest is to go to the character and paragraph palettes and in the flyout menu from the triangle on the upper right corner select reset character or reset paragraph. This will reset the type characteristics to the defaults.
If that doesn't work you may have to contact Microsoft about the way Windows XP handles fonts, I'm a mac guy and that is out of my area of expertise.
