Question
G'day Scott!

I have a repetitive problem when using my automate Contact Sheet II in CS2. It lays all the photos and captions well except they are always out of order in their file names i.e. not the expected ascending numerical order. Is there a way to fix this problem? I am using a PC with Windows XP.

Cheers!
Burt.

Answer
Hi Burt :)

Well, the short answer is "yes", you can fix the problem. But the solution may not be as elegant as you'd like. Here is a link that has all the information you need:

Basically, you will need to choose whether to drag/drop all your images into PS and then generate the contact sheet (talk about memory draining), or use the script referenced in John Nack's blog. That link is also on the page above, but here's a direct one:

There is hope that the next version of Photoshop will give you more control, but that release isn't likely to happen until sometime between Fall 2008 and Spring 2009. Consider leaving a feature request with Adobe:

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have further questions.
