Subject: Edit photo for video overlay

Question
Hello.  I have photoshop cs2.  I also use pinnacle studio 11 ultimate.  I know how to overlay a photo in pinnacle using pic n pic.  I am wanting to know how to edit a pic in photoshop that will be vinnetted without a background so that when i put it on top of a video it just shows the oval vinnette and not a black or white squared background.

Answer
Hi Cathy,
try this:

Create a layer mask for a selected area of an image, then select the Use Video Alpha option in Photoshop's Preferences dialog box:1. Open an RGB image in Photoshop.2. Choose File > Preferences > Transparency & Gamut, then select Use Video Alpha and click OK.3. To convert the Background to a layer, double-click Background in the Layers palette, then click OK in the Make Layer dialog box. (Unless the Background is converted to a layer, it doesn't supports layer masks.)4. Select the area to be masked, then create a video alpha channel by choosing Layer > Add Layer Mask > Reveal Selection.5. Using the Move tool, drag the image window to the second(NTSC) monitor. The video card will read the video alpha channel and key out the RGB image on the second monitor.

Do let me know if u need further assistance.
